Yes. Since these are pixel-level cleanup operations (color inversion, background whitening, text darkening), each page is rendered and re-saved as an image within the PDF. This is standard for scanned documents, which are typically image-based already. If your PDF has selectable text, that text layer is not affected by this process.
The Background slider sets the brightness threshold above which pixels are pushed to pure white. The Text slider sets the threshold below which pixels are pushed to pure black. Adjust them if the default settings are too aggressive or too subtle for your specific scan.
